Last line in my ad is “Asking $900 OBO - email or text if you’re interested. Please don’t call, it’s 2016.” Anyone want to guess the ratio of calls to texts and emails I’ve received?

Maybe that’s the secret. I prefer a phone call to a text message but “Calls Only - No Texts” seems to yield a ton of text messages for me to ignore.

Maybe? I’ll have to try that next time

Solution: From now on, make your listings say “Smoke signals, morse code, Pony Express ONLY!”

Just answer the phone with, “this isn’t a smoke signal” and hang up.

I always put “I work long hours, so I PREFER texts, not calls”

I feel your pain. I have a Yukon and Pacifica out there now. I got a phone call at 3:30 am. THREE DAMN THIRTY!
I was really hoping the dick would show up today. But per CL standards only 1 in 86 replies are serious.

Ah yes, the notoriously counter-intuitive CL crowd: you ask for texts/emails, you get all calls...you ask for calls only, you get tons of texts. Awesome.

2016: the year of no calling

What is it about 2016 that makes a phone call not a viable option

If texts had been invented first. Then 10-20 years later someone invented voice calls everyone would think voice calls were the greatest thing ever. No more slowly typing out a msg and waiting for a reply. You could just talk back and forth like a regular conversation. Crazy!

Make the price $1000, and state that the $900 pricing is offered to any interested parties who contact you via text.

Put in your ad “If you call me instead of email or text, I’ll hunt you down for sport and eat your heart.”

There are only two people in my life who I communicate with through calling, both are over 65. I thought most people hated the generally disruptive nature of phone conversation.

I generally dislike the disruptive nature of phone conversation. If it want to actually talk to someone, I’m going to video call.

This is wonderful

Had a similar issue. I posted my son’s old bike. Told the world to e-mail. Bonehead responds fifteen minutes after I posted asking me to call. Did I want to communicate by phone? NO!

Actual phone calls help weed out the scammers

This is true, and I always make sure to communicate verbally before meeting. Asking for texts only, at least initially, weeds out the people who obviously didn’t read the posting.
